Respond to what you read.
Recommend a paper when you think another reader’s time would be well spent. Choose “Would not recommend” when you would advise against spending that time.
Do
- Read enough of the paper to make a considered recommendation.
- Use reaction tags to explain the reading experience.
- Judge the paper, not its authors or readers.
- Report coordinated or malicious voting.
Do not
- Treat “Would not recommend” as proof that a paper is scientifically false.
- Vote because you dislike a topic, author or conclusion without evaluating the paper.
- Use multiple accounts, scripts or organised campaigns to manipulate rankings.
- Use reaction tags to harass, defame or target people.
Moderation
PaperVote may review abnormal voting patterns, remove abusive activity and leave papers unranked while an investigation is open. Decisions should protect the usefulness of the reader signal, not favour a scientific position.
